Programmatic Study

These are further studies of my site layout, circulation and development of plan. I'm currently working on the layering of the spaces and how people circulate through the building.

An update of my hybrid model

After the comments I received from my professors and fellow students, I revised and came up with this second model.

Hybrid Model

This is my hybrid model comprised of the the small study models from my program and impression collages. This model is abstract with incorporation of the wind sails, the isolation from society in Red hook and also the water intertwining with the outdoor green space.

Conceptual Collage Models

In this assignment we were tasked to create 3 models for each of our 3 collages.Each of my collages model have a 3"x 3" base and constructed from a wide variety of materials such as wood, Brillo pad, wood dowels, plexiglass etc.

(From Left to right) The first model is my first impression that i received when i first visited the area, which represents "Happy Or Sad." I showed that one side of the board is very alive and vibrant, while the other side is clear and nothing interesting to look at. The second model represents empty, because i didn't know what to expect and what to feel about this particular area (Red hook). I wasn't particular sad but just empty inside and disconnected from the surroundings,because of what i saw. I tried to showed the emptiness and disconnect with the wood and the wrapping of the brown material to illustrate how the weather was on the day i visited (Windy & rainy). The final model shows how much the area is polluted with garbage and old/worn out. The Brillo pad represents the garbage pollution in the area and rust on the pad shows the wreck rusty ships, buildings and vehicles.

  (From Left to right) The first model in the set basically represents the connection of people holding hands, which shows unity and a bond. In the second model i tried to show the connection between people and spaces in a building. The small cubes represents the spaces and the long stick act as a string that pulls everything together. I wanted to show the circulation path that people take to view a particular space or area and link between two spaces. The third and final model shows the connection with people and the chain to illustrate that something that relates or of the same type can make a connection.

(From Left to right) The first model was influenced by the sail of a boat. I wanted to incorporate that part of the ship in my design because of the location of the site and based on the history of Red hook. The second model I tried to show a relationship between the land water and the sail of the boat. In this way i will have a space in my building that connects the water and a outdoor patio/green space. The final 3d model I'm showing the geometry of the boat as shapes that can create a separation in my exhibition spaces.

An Impression collage of the the site I selected.

On my visit to the site, my impression was basically empty, because i didn't know what to expect and what to feel about this particular area (Red hook). I wasn't particular sad but just empty inside,because of what i saw. It was a cold and rainy and since the site is located on water's edge,it was quite a windy midday. The area have many factories and old buildings that looks like forts. Approaching the site I noticed the area looked deserted, old and really polluted with trash. The site that I visited was pretty small, it was right against the rocks and water and occupied by a private building.

In conclusion my trip to the site wasn't what i expected with all of the old buildings and garbage, but in the end I felt it was a good experience and the site offered a great view of the Statue of Liberty.

A  collage based on the word "Connection"

In this collage i focused on the word connection and how it relates to people and how they interact with an enclosed spaces. The lines and circles depicts the circulation path that people take to view a particular space or area and link between two spaces. I also showed the connection with people and the chain to illustrate that something that relates or of the same type can make a connection.

  A collage on the program of my building. (Boat Museum & Community Center

This collage represents the program that i will include in my building. The programs I'm introducing are typical but i think it will attract more people to that specific area in the Red hook and will also benefit the youths and develop the community. The water and branch of the tree shows a relationship that i would like to have in my program with the water and a outdoor patio/green space. I also wanted to introduce the different artifacts and ship parts that is around the Red hook area.
